John Stenson - Bio

Real Estate Law

Mr. Stenson has practiced both transactional law and litigation in Austin for over ten years. While advising small businesses and startups on an ongoing basis he also handles all phases of real estate from simple sale-purchase deals to complex construction. An experienced trial lawyer, he is an accomplished advocate for clients both in actual litigation and staying out of it through negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Stenson earned a BA in History from Tulane University in 1990, and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law in 2001, during which he spent a year at the National University of Ireland, Galway, studying European and International law. He opened his own practice directly out of law school, where he gained immediate experience in real estate and secured credit working with title companies during the refinance boom of the early 2000’s.

Since 2008, Mr. Stenson has been a principle – with Mike Lawrence – of Lawrence & Stenson Law, PLLC, which represents all kinds of business interests from builders, developers and contractors to commercial tenants, employers and lenders. He is a licensed escrow officer and a fee attorney for Trinity Title of Texas, closing real estate purchase and lending transactions.

With his wife Allison, Mr. Stenson has two sons with whom he enjoys watching and playing sports. He is an accomplished musician, singer and songwriter and occasionally performs plays in and around Austin. With his partner, he is active is community affairs, particularly with CapCityKids which is involved in supporting the education of homeless schoolchildren, and A Spacious Place, which is involved in creating programs for fostering spirituality through the arts.
